WHAT IS PILATES?

Pilates was designed by Joseph Pilates, it was designed to give you suppleness, grace and skill which will be unmistakeably reflected in the way you walk, stand, play and work.

Joseph Pilates said:

‘Physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness.    Our interpretation of physical fitness is the attainment  and maintenance of a uniformly developed body with a  sound mind fully capable of naturally, easily and    satisfactorily performing our many and varied daily    tasks with spontaneous zest and pleasure.’

So Joseph Pilates developed a whole stream of exercises that can be executed and which, have commonly and collectively become called Pilates, with the idea that a Pilates class is what  we attend to:

  • Become stronger in your core

  • Correct your posture

  • Strengthen your back

  • Improve your breathing

  • Correct muscle imbalances

  • Help your gait

  • Attain relief from tight neck and shoulders

  • Correct balance issues

  • Strengthen pelvic floor issues

  • Safely perform during pregnancy

Allison's Pure Pilates

“I no longer suffer from back and hip pain after walking, and my posture has completely changed.”

ELLA, LONDON

In order to do Pilates, one needs to be aware of our postures, our bodies and our mind body connection.

Anyone and everyone should be doing Pilates

WHAT CAN ALLISON'S PURE PILATES DO FOR YOU?

Don’t you want to feel wonderful?

I will help you develop your body uniformly, correct wrong posture, restore physical vitality, invigorate your mind and elevate your spirit.

Its starts with membership to Allisons pure Pilates and an initial assessment, once you have done that you can join any available class or create your own. Ideally attending a class twice a week is most beneficial, but not always possible. So I created the option to view and follow a sequence of videos which becomes available to you as a member and for members only.

You also have access to my blogs, and skype consultations. As a member I will assist you with questions about the videos, your plans and goals and your journey to Physical fitness which is the first requisite of happiness. Physical fitness being the attainment and maintenance of a uniformly developed body with a sound mind fully capable of naturally, easily and satisfactorily performing our daily lives with zest and pleasure.

The benefits of Pilates cannot be achieved unless you always, fully keep your mind wholly concentrated on the purpose of the exercises and executing them correctly from the start. Remember you are teaching yourself  THE RIGHT WAY

I strongly advise and suggest a daily routine which you can do in your own home at the cost of a weekly Pilates group session.  Practice your exercises diligently and do not be tempted to take the day off

Make up your mind that you will perform your Pilates for 10 mins daily. I assure you, you will feel uplifted.

Why?

"Because of the mind body connection of Pilates, by reawakening thousands and thousands of otherwise dormant muscle cells, Pilates reawakens thousands and thousands of dormant brain cells – stimulating functioning of the mind - hence an uplifting (feel good) sensation."

THE STRUCTURE OF ALLISON'S PURE PILATES

Initially I need to have a one-on-one consultation and assessment preferably done at one of my studios, but also possible by booking a skype appointment.

During that session which lasts an hour, I will learn; your history of any injuries or health issues, what your expectations are and how I can help you.

  • I will assist you in understanding about your posture.

  • How and why your body is reacting the way it is, if you have issues/ailments/pain.

  • I will teach you how to breathe effectively,  correctly, and efficiently .

Joseph Pilates said:  ‘Breathing is the first act of life and the last…. above all, learn to breathe correctly’

Once having learnt that I want my clients to become aware of their posture. Our bodies are incredible machines that should function perfectly without pain and in good health, if they are maintained properly. Unfortunately life is such that we inherit or develop such compromised and unbalanced postures whether standing, sitting, lying or even sleeping. We try to achieve so much and don’t ever stop to breathe and align ourselves in order to have control. I like to think of it as the ABC of life:

POSTURE (ALIGNMENT)    •    BREATHING    •    CONTROL

Ideally we move from strength to strength in the Pilates repertoire. Working from the inside out and striving to perfect our imperfections I believe we will start to feel better about ourselves.

My motto is: "Take time to say Hello to your body."

Many of my clients say ‘her classes have changed my life’. I think I have taught them to find the time to create a mind body connection.

My desire as I teach Pilates is to educate and help every one of my clients to be transformed, to feel better both physically and mentally, to understand themselves and to see the value of doing Pilates to enhance their lifestyles.

I never want my clients to think that their participation in Pilates will replace anything they are currently doing, rather it will serve to enhance it.

On leaving a Pilates session, I would like my clients to think about what they have been doing and to include it in their daily lives. Unfortunately although leaving with every intention of doing this, our busy lifestyles cause us to forget.

That is why I have created my unique approach, where, as a member you can have access at any time, to short videos reminding you of things you would have done under my supervision in the session. You will also have a platform on which to ask questions. I believe this gives you so much freedom, to tune into your bodies. Without the stress of having to go to a gym or a studio.

Joseph Pilates believed that we should be doing 10 minutes daily. He called his work ‘Return to Life Through Contrology.’

I like the concept and idea that we need to take control of our lives, and that we don’t need to take many hours out of our daily life or spend huge amounts of money on expensive machines and equipment.
